After 18 long months, the moment all ARMYs have been waiting for is finally here! Jin, the oldest member of the K-pop group BTS, was discharged from the military on June 12th after completing his mandatory service. Emotions ran high among ARMYs and across social media, which buzzed with updates, videos, and photos of Jin saluting and giving hearts to the cameras.

In South Korea, all physically fit men must complete mandatory military service, typically lasting around 18-21 months. This requirement sparked considerable debate when BTS, the globally acclaimed K-pop group, faced enlistment following their free concert in 2022, “Yet To Come.” Many argued that BTS should be exempt due to their substantial contributions to South Korea’s economy and international reputation. Their music, merchandise, and tours generate high revenue and draw global attention to Korean culture. Many felt it was unfair for BTS to pause their careers, given their unique impact on the nation’s economy and international standing.

The debate over BTS’s enlistment continued despite all the members fulfilling their military service. In May 2024, a Twitter user highlighted how even individuals in the Western world, including non-fans, questioned South Korea’s decision.

Despite the debates and concerns surrounding BTS’s military service, fans are overjoyed that Jin has returned and are eagerly looking forward to what the future holds for the group. With Jin’s discharge marking a new chapter for BTS, the excitement and anticipation among ARMYs remain as strong as ever.

Heartwarming Reunion with BTS Members

True to his promise before starting his service, Jin immediately greeted ARMYs through a live broadcast on the platform Weverse, naming it “D-Day.” The emotional communion and excitement caused the Weverse app to crash several times, creating another memorable moment for fans. After a few attempts to reconnect, ARMYs were able to cherish the reunion and see Jin in a room decorated with balloons, streamers, and letter balloons spelling out “Jin is back.”

A Twitter user remarked on how little Jin has changed, noting his consistent character and demeanor even after his time in the military.

Another Twitter user mentioned how he stayed true to his word despite his time away.

The celebration continues as fans unite to commemorate this moment together. Many gathered in “Jin’s Garden,” armed with their Army Bombs and posters, watching BTS content as a community. The joy among ARMYs highlights the deep connection forged through BTS’s music and Jin’s return, reinforcing their shared passion and support for the group.

Sharing His Military Experience

During the live broadcast, Jin shared his experiences and emotions, revealing that he felt deeply moved and even cried during discharge. He maintained his persona, stating that he wanted to look more handsome for ARMYs. Jin shared the warm welcome he received from HYBE, which included a congratulatory message, balloons, and a big bouquet. Despite claiming he didn’t know what to say, Jin shared much about his experience, including crying with his peers during the farewell. He displayed his official discharge certificate and the rewards he received, along with a poster filled with farewell notes.

After the live broadcast, ARMYs were treated to a special OT7 photo, featuring all the members posing together, a cherished moment for fans worldwide.

FESTA Activities and Global Celebrations

The celebrations continued on June 13th as Jin participated in BTS’s 11th anniversary FESTA activities. This special event allowed many lucky fans to greet and hug Jin in person. Social media buzzed with videos and photos from the non-broadcasted segment. International ARMYs also joined the celebration through a live broadcast on Weverse, for the second half, “Message from Jin.”

Nostalgia and Performances

Jin participated in recent trends he missed, including the “Seven” challenge, a song by BTS’s Jungkook released in July 2023. Nostalgia ran high as Twitter buzzed with “EAT JIN,” reminiscing about Jin’s live eating sessions on the now-defunct V Live app. Despite joking that he forgot how to sing, Jin’s natural talent shone through as he performed solo songs like “Moon” and “Super Tuna,” which featured a new verse. He also performed “The Astronaut,” creating a full-circle moment from his last performance with Coldplay in Argentina before his service.

A Twitter user expressed how their world felt complete again with Jin’s return, especially with the return of “EAT JIN.”

A Special Day for ARMY

Jin’s deep love for ARMYs was evident as he worked tirelessly to make the FESTA event special, even recording an extended version of “Super Tuna” on the same day. Despite his nerves, he gave all his thanks to ARMYs for their unwavering support. As ARMYs eagerly await the discharge of the next BTS member, J-Hope, in October, their excitement and loyalty remain.
